Testing Setup
For this test, we used a gas blowback airsoft gun to evaluate the timer’s ability to capture shots indoors and outdoors. A relatively quiet environment is essential for accurate results. Sensitivity was initially set to 95, the optimal level for airsoft, to capture shots without being affected by gear or other background noise.
The timer was placed in different positions:
- On the shooter’s belt.
- At distances of 1, 3, and 5 meters from the shooter.
Afterward, the sensitivity was increased to 100 to determine the maximum distance at which the timer could detect shots. Each scenario was filmed using the Drills app, showing real-time shot recordings.
Indoor Testing
The test began indoors with the timer on the belt and the sensor facing the shooter:
- At 1 meter, the timer captured shots consistently.
- At 3 meters, results remained reliable.
- At 5 meters, accuracy was maintained.
Outdoor Testing
Next, the timer was tested outdoors:
- At 1 and 3 meters, the timer captured shots without issue.
- At 5 meters, results were still consistent, establishing 3 meters as a practical limit for airsoft when the timer is used outside.
Sensitivity Increased to 100
With the sensitivity maxed out, the timer captured shots from significantly greater distances:
- At 7, 10, and 12 meters, detection was consistent.
- At 14 meters, results began to vary.
- At 16 meters, only one shot was recorded.
However, such high sensitivity is not recommended as it may pick up false shots in noisier environments.
